Just Jump In: the Power of Baptism

Have you ever felt like life was chaotic, like you’re carrying weight you just can’t shake? You’re not alone.

At RiverGlen, we hear stories like Zahra’s all the time—people feeling lost, anxious, or unsure if they’re “enough.” But then they experience something simple yet powerful: baptism.

In Zahra’s words:

“I almost felt like all of this pressure, all of this weight just came off my chest… I felt like I was reborn. It was almost like a cleansing… you have a clean slate.”

What Does the Bible Say About Baptism?

Baptism isn’t just a tradition—it’s woven throughout the entire story of Scripture.

  • Jesus was baptized: “Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.” — Matthew 3:13

  • It’s a public declaration of faith: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” — Matthew 28:19

  • It symbolizes a new life: “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead… we too may live a new life.” — Romans 6:4

Why Get Baptized?

Zahra wrestled with feeling unworthy and afraid. Maybe you can relate. Yet she chose to take the plunge—literally.

“My second service at RiverGlen was getting baptized. Just jump in. There’s nothing to be afraid of… Rip off the band-aid and just do it.”

Baptism is a moment when:

  • You declare your faith in Jesus.

  • You leave your past behind.

  • You step into a community ready to cheer you on.

Ready to Jump In?

Whether you’ve been in church forever or you’re still figuring out what you believe, baptism might be your next step. You don’t have to “have it all together.” None of us do. That’s the whole point.

So like Zahra says:

“Just do it. You will not regret it.”

Let’s celebrate what God is doing in your story. Are you ready to take your next step in faith?
