Seen, Known, and Whole: Faith-based Resources on Mental Health

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and at RiverGlen, we believe that the church should be one of the safest places to talk about mental health.

The truth is, we all face battles in our minds. Whether it’s anxiety, burnout, identity struggles, or the weight of past trauma, mental health is a deeply spiritual conversation. That’s why this conversation isn't just a "teaching" - it's an invitation.

It's an invitation to:

  • rest when life demands hurry

  • to challenge the lies we've believed with truth

  • to slow down, speak up and reach out

  • to remember that in Jesus, we're never alone

At RiverGlen, we believe following Jesus transforms our whole lives—including our minds. We connect in groups not just to grow spiritually but to support one another emotionally. We contribute by being vulnerable, showing up for others, and breaking the silence around mental health. And we celebrate the small wins—like the courage to ask for help, or wisdom to support others through their mental health struggles.

If you're looking to go deeper, we’re highlighting four powerful, faith-based books that offer practical encouragement and biblical wisdom for the journey.

Mental Health Resources

📘 Winning the War in Your Mind – Craig Groeschel

Groeschel helps us identify toxic thinking patterns and replace them with God’s truth. If you've ever felt stuck in negative thinking, this book offers a roadmap to freedom.

📘 Every Thought Captive – Kyle Idleman

Idleman shows how Scripture can dismantle the lies we often believe about ourselves, others, and God. It’s a strong reminder that faith has everything to say about how we think.

📘 Soundtracks – Jon Acuff

This one’s all about overthinking—and how we can rewrite our mental soundtracks with hope. It’s light, practical, and deeply encouraging.

📘 The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry – John Mark Comer

This book is a gentle, prophetic call to slow down. In a world that glorifies busy, Comer invites us to rest in the unhurried presence of Jesus—and find renewal.

No matter where you’re at—curious, overwhelmed, healing, or just holding on—there’s room for you in this conversation.

Let this month be a step forward. Join a group. Talk to someone. Pick up one of these books. Or just come spend an hour with us this weekend.

Because healing happens when we realize we’re not the only ones struggling—and that God sees us, knows us, and loves us still.
